How prepare your home before the painter and decorator arrives?
Preparing the room for painting is undoubtedly one of the most difficult stages of renovation. The very act of painting is not as difficult and labor-intensive as the preparation for painting. We start each renovation with the most accurate planning possible.
Furniture and equipment
It would be best to take out items, furniture and accessories from the room. Sometimes, however, this is not possible, then you should move all the furniture in the middle of the room to ensure free access to the walls. Cover the furniture with a plastic foil. This will protect your furniture from dirt or even damage..
Any pictures or photos on the walls will need to be gently removed. If you are going to put them back in the same place, leave the hooks etc. in the walls so that you can hang everything easily when the decorating is finished. But perhaps you have decided on a completely new look and want to change everything, in which case, you will need to remove the hooks and nails from the walls too. Twist them out with some pliers if the walls are plastered, to avoid chipping the plaster.
Keep pets away
Another thing that a painting company would ask from you is that you keep your pets away from their work area. This might be a tricky task especially since it is not exactly humane to lock them up in the laundry room. You should find a way to get them out of the house before the paintwork starts so that you will not end up with a multicolored pet.
Choose a day when you can be around
There is no need to get painting contractors to come over when you know they will not be able to have access in the house. It is better to arrange to be around or arrange with someone you trust to be around when they come in to do the painting job. If you have kids, you may need to send them to stay with the neighbor or with family while the painting is being done.
If you’re considering a home renovation, ensure that you choose wisely and conduct the necessary research. Your home is important and preparation beforehand can save you both time and money in the long run.
